Racumin® Foam FAQ's

Racumin® Foam is an anticoagulant contact rodenticide for indoor use against rats and house mice. Rats groom 20% of the time they are awake. Racumin® Foam takes advantage of their grooming behaviours by ensuring they digest a lethal dose of Coumatetralyl.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the active ingredient in Racumin® Foam?

Racumin® Foam contains the active ingredient Coumatetralyl. It is registered for use against Common brown rat (Rattus norvegicus) and House mouse (Mus musculus).

Do I have to use the whole can in one go?

No, Racumin® Foam has a shelf life of 4 years. Shake the can before application to get the best flow rate ensuring you can hear the ball inside. The volume of foam in 1 can is 12L (500g). This should allow approximately 16-17 applications for Rats and up to 125 applications for Mice per can.

Where can I use Racumin® Foam?

Racumin® Foam is approved for indoor use only.

Why does the foam go flat?

The foam is water based and over time will degrade and break down. The time frame for this process will vary depending on the treatment area conditions, how humid or dry it may be for example – typically Racumin® Foam will maintain its structure for 12 days after application.

How exactly does it work?

Racumin® Foam is an anticoagulant like other more traditional rodent bait formulations and will typically control rodents 4-6 days after ingestion. However, unlike traditional baits Racumin® Foam is a contact formulation that works with the rodent’s natural grooming habits. On average, rodents groom for 20% of the day. It is during the grooming process that the rodent ingests the product into the bloodstream through the soft tissue in their gums and mouth.

How much should I apply?

As per the label, for Rats: Apply 20g to 30g of foam (the size of a half brick). For Mice: Apply 4g to 30g of foam (the size of a tennis ball). This quantity can be applied as a single application or as a number of small applications along the track.

How should I apply?

To enable the rodents to continue using their entrance points / holes do not totally seal them off with the foam - only part fill the treatment point. This will encourage the rodents to cross the foam and help to speed up the control of the target pest.

Where can I buy Racumin® Foam?

All professional pest control distributors including Killgerm and Barrettine, or contact the Bayer Pest Solutions Team for further advice.

Once the foam breaks down or disintegrates does it still work?

Yes it is still active but the efficacy of the product is reduced as it is less likely to adhere to the rodent’s feet and fur. Care must be taken to remove all residues of the product after the treatment program has been completed, ensuring you are using the correct personal protective equipment.

Can Racumin® Foam replace other baits?

Racumin® Foam can be used independently and reaches areas other products can’t, however the product is designed to complement other treatment methods as part of an integrated pest management approach. As with all rodenticide formulations it has its place in the ‘armory’ of products available to professional pest controllers.

Is there a risk to non-target species?

Yes, the same precautions should be followed as with all other rodenticides when using the product as per the label and in conjunction with the CRRU Code of Best Practice.

How can I prevent an uneven flow as the foam leaves the can?

Always give it a really good shake until you hear the metal ball to ensure the formulation is correctly mixed. Also ensure that the can is kept at room temperature prior to use.
